"Did you know?" and "Remember" by Jen

Our first behind the scenes look at this challenge's layouts comes from Jen...

I don’t have a child in my life to ask about either my aunt or Grandma, so thought I would journal to myself as a child.  Both my aunt and Grandma were such large parts of my childhood, I wonder if I realized it at the time.   They both are two of my role models, and I wonder if I knew what incredible women they were when I was younger.

I’m not sure what the occasion was when the picture of my aunt and me was taken.  I just know that looking at this 25 years later, I love looking at the little details.  I love seeing the fashion “trends” we’re wearing, seeing that I’m holding on to the strap on her shoulder, and my hand is resting on hers.  Seeing this picture has reinforced the importance of taking pictures just because – life is more than just holidays and birthdays!

Journaling (on tag): Did you know?  She would change your life more than you could ever imagine?  She was more than an aunt, but an inspiration?  You would later cherish these times, wondering what you two were thinking?  You would wish you could spend just one more day with her?

Next, the picture of my Grandma and me represents a day where one of my very first memories happened.  We were taking a ferry to visit their good friends, the Becks.  I remember sitting on Isabelle Beck’s countertop as she painted my toenails … and years later, I still referred to her as the lady who painted my toenails.  At only 27 months, I don’t remember many details of the day, or the ferry ride, but I love this picture, knowing that one of my first memories at that time was later documented.  I love that she’s holding my hand, as my little fingers grasp hers.  Since my mother was a single parent, my Grandma played a large part of my childhood, picking me up from daycare once a week.  I cherish the memories we shared when I was a child!

I didn’t include journaling on this layout, but plan to print out the story (shared above) to be included on the back of the layout.

As always, remember that your own projects need to be linked up under the original challenge post. To be eligible for the awesome A Peek into Yesterday gift certificate, you need to link us up by October 10th, okay?

Jen, I love the way you scrap to remember your Grandma and Aunt Katherine. I remember meeting both of them and being impressed with their "aliveness" and your layouts and journaling help me to "know" them just a bit. Thanks!
