untitled by Kaitlin

To wrap up this challenge for us, here's Kaitlin:

I decided to do a layout with all the games I remember playing with my grandmother (we call her mema) as a child and even some I remember her playing with my daughter. These are important memories to me because they were some of my first, my most fondest and even some of my last. In fact, when my mother called me to tell me mema had passed away and asked if there was anything she could bring home for me I asked for three things- one of those being the marbles I documented on this page.

JOURNALING: Whenever I would go over to mema’s I would inevitably play with the marbles. They were always hidden inside the entertainment center cabinet for me...waiting for me. I would always ask for a laundry basket and flip it over to run the marbles along the ridges... like little race car tracks. Now the marbles sit on my nightstand as a reminder.

One of the earliest childhood memories I have is sitting on the floor of my mema’s room waiting for my mom to get home from work-playing go fish.and watching Johnny Carson. I can even see the room as I was sitting on the ground and picture the cards we played with that were shaped like fish. I love how mema got down and played on the floor with me. Funny that this is one of my first memories when more often than not first memories are of tragic or sad events.

One of my last memories of mema was her sitting on the floor playing blocks with Reiley. She was sick and not feeling good that week yet she came to help out while my parents were gone. She apologized for the mess and not being able to clean it up when I got home. I was perhaps stressed out from the amount of homework I had to do besides cleaning up too now.

Wonderful memories, Kaitlin. I like how you documented each game separately.

I love how you documented without the actual photo of you playing it. I have several memories, but not the pictures. It looks great!

I love the simplicity of the design and how that focuses your attention on the journaling! Love the marbles, too!! Makes me wish for some game that was more significant with my own grandparents. :) Thanks for sharing!
