"Dylan" by Amanda

Me again. Seems weird to introduce myself, lol, so I'll just get right to my layout for this challenge:

This layout actually started out as a Christmas gift this past year. Well, not the layout...the photo. I took this old photo of my dad when he was about 18 (isn't it awesome?), scanned it, and added the text of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind" using Deena Wuest's tutorial in the book Get Creative With Type (which is fantastic, btw). I framed it for my mom and have a copy hanging in my own house as well.

(Incidentally, all of these fabulous lyrics layouts for this challenge have reminded me of what great gift potential is to be had here. Not only do scrapbooked lyrics make a lovely gift for just anyone, they can make a particularly moving and personal gift for someone who has suffered a loss. Just a thought, since I know I struggle with what to send to others. Things like this also help me connect with my own family in our joint loss...a way to remember and celebrate who my dad was.)

Back to my layout. I kept it pretty simple because I just loved how the photo turned out so much. I didn't want to distract from it. And, I chose this particular song because it simply was my dad's. Everyone who knew him, knew that. He listened to it all the time. We played it at his funeral. Beyond that, I think the journaling pretty well sums it up:

I’m not a musical person. I rarely listen to music. I can tell you the names of maybe a dozen songs...maybe. Still. Growing up, the times I remember having music in the house were the times my dad was playing his Bob Dylan records in the living room (aside from Christmas time, though Dylan was featured even then). I probably know more songs by Dylan than any other artist. And, when I hear one, I always...always...think of my dad. Now that he’s gone, I feel like it’s a little gift he left for me...something I can always turn to when I want to feel he’s there with me. Thanks, Dad.

Don't forget that your own projects need to be linked up under the original challenge post, though, okay? I'm loving all the layouts posted so far! To be eligible for the awesome Prism prize, you need to link us up by August 25th, so make sure your weekend includes some scrappy time if you haven't already done this challenge. :)

The picture is amazing ... it caught my breath when I first saw your LO. I agree with Debbie - I'll always think of you & your dad when I hear Bob Dylan. :)

I just stumbled across this blog by accident and it couldn't come at a more appropriate time. I lost my dad (at age 61) after a seven week battle with lung cancer on July 20th. Like your dad, my dad loved Bob Dylan. We used Forever Young in my dad's video tribute and I plan to make a memorial page with those lyrics and the more funny photos of him. Your page really hit home for me. Thanks for sharing it.
